A Gracious Farmhouse Retreat in North Buckhead

Every once in a while, you come across a home that just feels right. This North Buckhead farmhouse has that kind of ease—the kind that makes you want to grab a coffee, sit on the porch swing, and never check your phone again. Designed by Norman Askins with interiors by Susan Bozeman, it blends the best of old and new: stone, shiplap, soft color, and that unmistakable Southern sense of welcome.

Architecture & Exterior

From the very first glimpse, the house feels like it’s been there forever—in the best way. Designed by Norman Askins, it captures the charm of a classic Southern farmhouse but with a refined edge that makes it feel completely current. The exterior mixes natural stone, painted wood siding, and standing seam metal roofing, giving it layers of texture and warmth.

Wide porches wrap around the home, framed by charming lanterns that flicker softly at dusk, and tall windows that flood the rooms with light. Every line feels intentional—the gables, the symmetry, the roof pitch—it’s timeless without feeling precious.

I love how the materials feel rooted in place, almost as if they were pulled from the land itself. The soft, neutral palette lets the surrounding trees and gardens take center stage, and the entire home seems to sit so naturally within its landscape. It’s elegant and inviting all at once—the kind of architecture that whispers rather than shouts.

The Entryway

The front door opens to a bright, light-filled foyer lined in shiplap with dark floors that keep everything grounded. It’s polished but still feels casual—like the house knows how to look beautiful without trying too hard. The lantern light fixtures and simple runner on the stairs give it a timeless feel right from the start.

The Living Room

This is the heart of the home and where you instantly want to curl up. The stone fireplace, the warm wood beams, and those soft linen sofas make it all so inviting. There’s a mix of pattern and texture—just enough to feel layered but never fussy. You can tell this room was designed for both morning coffee and long evenings by the fire.

The Kitchen & Dining Room

The kitchen is everything we love about farmhouse design, a deep apron-front sink, simple shaker cabinetry, and the kind of natural light that makes you want to bake something (probably time for some pumpkin bread). The marble counters, vintage plates above the windows, and exposed beams make it feel classic but lived-in.

The dining room carries that same mix of refinement and warmth. Elegant wallpaper, tailored chairs, and a few antique pieces create a sense of history, while the light streaming in keeps it all feeling fresh. It’s the kind of space where every meal could feel special—even a Tuesday night one.

The Bedrooms

Upstairs, everything quiets down in the best way. The main bedroom is soft and restful, layered in pale grays and crisp white bedding that looks impossibly comfortable. The bunk room, tucked away with blue-striped curtains, feels straight out of summer—fun, cozy, and classic. Every space feels intentional but effortless.

The Outdoor Spaces

The porches and gardens are where this home really shines. There’s a stone terrace with an outdoor fireplace, a tucked-away grill area covered in climbing roses, and boxwoods framing every path. Landscape designer Carson McElheney gave the grounds a relaxed, romantic feel—full of heirloom plantings, soft color, and beautiful old trees.

And of course, that front porch swing. You can almost hear it creak softly while the ceiling fan hums overhead. It’s Southern living at its best—refined, relaxed, and meant to be enjoyed slowly.

Closing Thoughts

What makes this home so special isn’t just how beautiful it is—it’s how comfortable it feels. It’s polished, but personal. Elegant, but easy. Exactly what we all mean when we say Southern charm.
