The Gable House: East Coast Roots, Mountain Retreat
Designed by Studio McGee, The Gable House is a masterclass in timeless architecture and modern livability. Tucked against a sweeping mountain backdrop, the home blends East Coast tradition with a relaxed mountain sensibility—where gabled rooflines, layered textures, and refined craftsmanship come together in perfect balance.
From the moment you enter, every detail feels considered. Vaulted ceilings, intricate millwork, and a neutral palette provide a calm foundation, while rich materials—natural stone, painted cabinetry, and warm wood accents—add depth and soul. Each room tells its own story yet connects seamlessly to the next, unified by Studio McGee’s signature mix of warmth, symmetry, and subtle luxury.
This is a home that celebrates the way people actually live: morning light in the kitchen, cozy fireside evenings, and thoughtful spaces for work, play, and gathering. Below, we take you through the Gable House room by room—each one layered with the craftsmanship, comfort, and enduring appeal that define Studio McGee’s work.
Foyer & Powder Bath

You don’t often see a powder bath make a “first impression,” but here it does—with wallpaper, unexpected placement, and a confident introduction to the home’s personality. Shea notes:
“I love how the foyer and powder bath make such a memorable first impression—not just with their unexpected placement, but with the introduction of one of our favorite design elements in this home: wallpaper.” Studio McGee
This room sets the tone. The wallpaper nods to tradition, while the finishes hint at the modern layers to come.
Living Room / Great Room

This is where architecture and emotion converge. With vaulted ceilings, strong gables, and crisp lines, the space feels expansive yet grounded. The symmetry and detail recall classic East Coast homes—but the light and scale lean toward mountain living.
Built-ins, clean trim, and a thoughtful mix of masculine and feminine touches speak to the design tightrope this home walks. The living room is expressive yet intentional: not just decoration, but architecture in service of life.
Kitchen & Millwork

One of the standout decisions here is the blue-painted millwork in the kitchen:
“The blue-painted millwork in the kitchen was one of those design decisions that just felt right—and it naturally inspired a color story that carried through the home’s functional spaces.” Studio McGee
This cabinetry color acts like a quiet thread: distinct, but not loud—tying rooms together without overwhelming them. Coupled with cabinetry detail, rich hardware, and a balance of openness and storage, the kitchen underscores how function and beauty can blend seamlessly.
Dining Area

The dining room continues the architectural gestures—arched openings, symmetry, and a refined palette. With connective sightlines to the kitchen and other spaces, it feels integrated, not boxed off.
It’s a space built for gathering: polished yet comfortable and welcoming.
5. Primary Suite

Softness takes center stage here. In contrast to the more formal public spaces, the primary bedroom is a retreat—a place to rest and recharge. Shea describes it as:
“The primary suite is soft, serene, and designed to feel like a true retreat.” Studio McGee
Expect a palette that whispers, details that soothe, and finishes that feel wrapped around you—not imposed on you.
Primary Bathroom

Bathrooms in The Gable House echo the home’s overarching balance: elegant, durable, with character. Fixtures, tile choices, and lighting are chosen to last, but each space also feels considered—never an afterthought.
Office / Study

Tucked away from the main living spaces, the office balances polish and practicality. Built-ins showcase the home’s tailored millwork, while a sturdy desk, layered lighting, and textural rugs keep the room warm rather than formal. It’s where the Gable House’s East Coast sensibility really shines—ordered, timeless, and quietly handsome—yet styled for real life with a comfortable chair, a pinboard for ideas, and a few collected pieces that tell a story.
Kids’ Bedroom

The children’s rooms in the Gable House balance comfort and imagination. Built-in window seats and layered bedding create cozy corners, while playful patterns and pops of muted color add personality without overwhelming the calm palette that runs throughout the home. It’s a thoughtful space that grows with its occupants—inviting for playtime, peaceful for bedtime.
Playroom

The playroom captures the joyful side of Studio McGee’s design language. Light wood tones, open shelving, and baskets keep toys accessible yet beautifully contained. A large area rug anchors the space for everything from puzzles to pillow forts. Natural light fills the room, making it bright and cheerful, while durable finishes ensure it’s as functional as it is charming.
Laundry Room

Even the laundry room feels special here. Cabinetry in soft tones, elegant hardware, and a hint of pattern underfoot turn a purely practical area into a place you don’t mind spending time. The design merges utility and beauty seamlessly—ample storage, a farmhouse sink, and natural stone counters all make everyday tasks feel elevated.
Dog Wash Room

A true mark of thoughtful design, the dog wash room is both stylish and smart. Tiled from floor to ceiling for easy cleanup, with built-in sprayers and a raised platform, it makes caring for four-legged family members a breeze. Subtle detailing—brass fixtures, patterned tile, and wall hooks for leashes—keeps the space cohesive with the rest of the home’s refined aesthetic.
Outdoor & Backyard / Exterior Views

When you step outside, the architectural integrity holds. The symmetrical gables, rooflines, and materials echo the home’s East Coast influences, but the site and orientation wear their mountain home identity.
Patios, seating areas, and garden views are quiet but inviting. It’s architecture that doesn’t dominate the land, but belongs to it.
